KineticsMartha Connerton, Director of Kinetic Works, performing and choreography credits include ballet and modern dance companies, theater, musicals, opera and television/video. Martha has taught at colleges and universities. She has received grants, awards and fellowships from The NC Arts Council, The Arts and Science Council of Charlotte. Martha’s work in arts education includes Lincoln Center Institute, Blumenthal Education Institute, and Education Director for NC Dance Theatre. She is on the Arts Education rosters in North and South Carolina, for Durham, Raleigh/Wake, Johnston County, Fayetteville/Cumberland, Charlotte/Mecklenburg, North Charleston, York, Spartanburg and others. Performance
Moving Stories/Changing Lives (MSCL)

MSCL is a work created in 2015 in collaboration with Changed Choices, based on the stories of four formerly incarcerated women. It tells the heartbreaking and inspiring journeys of their lives through dance and theater, with a commissioned score by Elizabeth Kowalski. Audience will be invited to participate in a choreography activity after the performance to tell a short story about their own life through movement. This performance can also be linked with a full residency or one-day workshop.

Special Requirements (Space, Tech, Volunteer): Set up app. 1 hour. Strike 10 minutes. Need multi, gym or stage, cleared of obstructions, PA system/2 mics; if video projection is available we may want to use it.

Moving Stories/Changing Lives

This residency goes along with a performance of Moving Stories/Changing Lives, based on the journeys of four formerly incarcerated women. In this residency students make dances to stories from their own lives and discuss how the choices we make can impact the rest of your life. Program particularly suited for middle, high school and at-risk youth.

KINETYX Active Learning Performances

KINETYX Active Learning Performances teach Math, Science, Language Arts and Social Studies through dance and choreography. Each year we offer two of four shows: Movin’ Into Math, Science in Motion, Around the World in 60 Minutes or Unspoken Words. All performances are 1 hour long, deeply engaging, and include audience participation. Particularly suited for Elementary grades K-2 and 3-5, but also work at Middle and High Schools. Core curriculum is addressed in a fun, entertaining and artistic way.

Special Requirements (Space, Tech, Volunteer): Set up 1 hour, Strike 10 min. Need multi, gym or stage, PA system (w mics), outlets.

Workshop
Ballet or Modern Dance Technique

Students will participate in a ballet or modern dance technique class at the Intermediate or Advanced level. They will learn body awareness, proper alignment, and articulation of legs, feet, arm movement, head and torso. They will understand concepts of movement dynamics and performance presentation. The class will include a standing warm up and a center floor, across the floor movement section. 90 minutes.

Special Requirements (Space, Tech, Volunteer): Dance studio (barres for ballet).
