Classes taken during Irish Heritage summer programs at Elkins College WVA and a storytelling course at the Carrboro Arts Center provided the basis for John’s program. Originally studies at the NCSU School of Design led to an interest in circus design. Eventually John worked as a Ringling Bros. clown for five years. For a number of years he performed corporate sponsored school programs on a variety of beneficial themes using puppetry. John also was in a traditional Irish music group which produced two CDs, and he traveled in Ireland in 2008.  BOOK JOHN McHUGH

Magical Ireland: Folk Tales and Music

Irish stories, music and dance come alive in this fast paced, humorous and interactive presentation for grades K-5. Musical instruments such as the uilleann bagpipes, comical puppets, and some very unique props are integrated into the stories themselves. An on stage jig “teach-in” which brings audience members up on stage provides a great deal of merriment for the entire audience. The Irish immigration of the mid 1800s provides a historical backdrop for the program.
