Casey recently won a national award for his work to make Durham County the First Library in Space, and he firmly believes that all children should reach for the stars. With his love of storytelling, science and all things “nerdy”, Casey has a madcap take on science and storytelling that is high energy and contagious. Muggle Magic or The Insane Science of Fairyland

In “Muggle Magic” join Professor Casey Nees on loan from the Ministry of Non-Magical Studies as he takes your students on a fun filled program full of science and magic! Learn how non-magical folk emulate magic with the power of science. Levitation, color changing “potions”, potential and kinetic energy, singing rods and more! This fun filled program will inspire creative thinking and in the process show just how magical science can be. 6-10 student volunteers will come onstage but all will be engaged.

In “The Insane Science of Fairyland” Come to magical place where wolves sneeze down houses, pumpkins are prisons and science brings fairy tales to life! This program is one party science demonstration and three parts storytelling and is designed to not only teach science but to get your students thinking creatively about science. Da Vinci, Einstein and Bernouli were great scientists and even greater creative thinkers.This year get your students thinking about science and the arts in an insanely scientific frolic through the world of Faerie!

Special Requirements: Access to water, and (depending on group size) stage/performance area/speaker system optional.

Full Body Storytelling: Hero Tales

Hero Tales! A Full Body Storytelling Experience. Why listen to a story when you can become part of a story! Hero Tales will have your students up and moving with fine and gross motor skills. Yoga, paper folding and science stories allow students to experience storytelling with all their senses! Along the way your students will learn about personal heroism, community heroes, sharing, and how heroes come in all shapes and sizes.

Special Requirements: In house sound system, a chair, a table, access to water and space for children to move. Gymnasium or auditorium without seats.

The Science of Folk Toys

Students will learn the science of toys that they make themselves! Experience and build the friction climber, the oscillating bird, and a working hovercraft! Students will learn about friction, air pressure and Newton’s Laws of Motion and take home three working science “toys” to inspire them to look at the their toy box and the world in a whole new way! 60 minutes.

Super Cold Science for Tweens and Teens

Super Cold Science for Teens Bring your teens on a super cold journey into the amazing science of dry ice! Perfect for older students, this workshop teaches about sublimation, temperature, wind shear, molecular structure of crystals and so much more! Along the way your students will go hands-on with dry ice, making coins/spoons sing, capture gases and make canisters/balloons pop, create giant fog filled bubbles and observe a fog tornado! 60 Minutes.

Special Requirements: Tables, a classroom, electricity, access to water.
