Transit Vocal Band


Transit Vocal Band is a high-energy a cappella group that has entertained audiences of up to 40,000 people in venues throughout the US and has produced award-winning albums! Our cast of professional musicians has experience teaching K-12 and college-level students, and has educated and entertained over 850 school audiences since the group’s inception in 2005. Our highly interactive educational programs and workshops trace the historical development of the contemporary a cappella genre, instruct students about ways science and technology enhance the a cappella sound, and inspire creative utilization and improvisation with the most natural instrument of all – the human voice!

Performance
The Evolution of A Cappella

In this highly interactive program, students: 1) become familiar with the historical and cultural context imperative to the evolution of various a cappella forms throughout history; 2) listen to, compare and contrast the characteristic sounds of early a cappella forms; 3) replicate specific improvisational vocal techniques used to imitate different instrument sounds; 4) observe and assist in the creative process used in arranging music for a cappella performance and 5) define common a cappella terms.

Special Requirements (Space, Tech, Volunteer):
We require an auditorium, theater, multi-purpose space or outdoor venue (weather permitting) with reliable power outlets nearby. To safely set up our heavy equipment, space must be free of students one hour before showtime. Additionally, we require at least 10 bottles of water and a 6ft. table to be placed on the stage or near the performance area.

Maximum Participants: 600

Magic of A Cappella

IThis interactive, behind-the-scenes look at the production of a contemporary a cappella performance introduces: 1) the science of sound, specifically how technology assists singers in voice amplification/modification 2) our sound system components and their purposes; 3) the auditory difference between an on- and off-mic performance 4) essential vocal roles in an a cappella group, including the bass and vocal percussion or the “rhythm section”; 5) a brief historical overview of popular a cappella forms.
