Founded in 1983, Carlota Santana Spanish Dance Company is one of America’s most prominent, culturally-specific dance companies, serving more than 40,000 people nationwide each year through far-reaching programs that entertain, educate and empower. Our mission is to: promote flamenco as a living art form and a vital part of Hispanic heritage; produce and perform high quality dance works; and provide arts education programs that catalyze connections among young people, while nurturing the new generations of Spanish dance artists and educators. Fiesta Flamenca

A Lecture Demonstration consists of an exciting professional flamenco performance with 2 dancers, a singer and a guitarist. Students learn about the history of flamenco, the different instruments involved in the art form, and the interplay between the dancers, guitarist, and singer. Audience participation is vital to the show, and students have an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the performance.

Special Requirements (Space, Tech, Volunteer): 4 armless chairs (folding chairs will do), water for 4 artists, clean clear performing area. Necessary sound equipment: 3 microphones on stands

Duration: 45 – 50 minutes

Flamenco Alive!

Carlota Santana Spanish Dance Company’s residency programs focus on developing students poise, social skills and perseverance through the teaching of the technique and skills of flamenco dance and music. Our program exposes students of all abilities to the rich history and culture of this Hispanic art form and and fosters communication between young people of different cultures. The program begins with a professional performance and ends in a culminating activity where students demonstrate their learning with a performance in full flamenco costumes alongside professional artists.

Carlota Santana Spanish Dance Company Workshop

Workshops are the perfect companion to a Lecture Demonstration. In hands-on classes with a dancer and musician, students will learn the basics of flamenco movement, a short choreography and a song in Spanish. Workshops last 45 minutes and two can be held simultaneously for up to 30 students each.
