Susan Hartley


Susan Hartley, 40 year veteran dance educator, has a Dramatic Arts BA, and Dance MFA. She has been North Carolina Visiting Artist, K-12 NC and Southeast Dance Educator of the Year, director, choreographer, and performer. She has taught dance at every level: infant, elementary, middle, high, university, adult, elders and special programs. Her philosophy involves the process of discovery through movement based upon Anne Green Gilbert’s Brain Dance. Integrative activities involving language arts, math, science, or social studies are key components to lessons. Multiple Intelligences are utilized throughout the dance experience as she collaborates with the classroom teacher and students. BOOK SUSAN HARTLEY

Residency
Infinite Curricular Connections through Dance

Pre-K through 12th grade students will create dance experiences/sharings that integrate the classroom teacher’s unit of study in language arts, math, science, social studies, pe and/or the arts. Your uniquely designed workshop can range from the introduction of a unit of study, assisting the understanding of the material, or expanding beyond the goals of the curriculum. Through this interdisciplinary approach, students are able to enhance and complement what they are studying and acquire a deeper and broader understanding of the subject matter.

Special Requirements (Space, Tech, Volunteer):
A clean, open space to facilitate safe movement, A CD or iPod sound system, whiteboard or Smartboard, wall space to hang visuals, classroom teacher present and sharing in teaching experience

Maximum Participants:
28-30 per classroom residency

Duration:
45-50 minutes

Residency Fee: $125.00 per class/hr.

The Brain Dance, Taking Full Advantage: Movement for Body and Soul

Based upon Anne Green Gilbert’s Brain Dance, workshops are tailored to meet the unique needs and abilities of individuals in the group. Participants excel as they build and renew connections with the Brain and Body, improve Balance, Body Strength and Coordination, Cognitive Abilities and Social Interactions. Each workshop fosters effective brain stimulation, body coordination and imagination. Individual personalities are explored, rediscovered and celebrated.
