Lakeview School is an alternative program designed for students in grades 6-12 who have a history of misbehavior and who have received long-term suspension.
Lakeview School’s mission is to empower and enhance students by utilizing an individual approach that provides a more structured setting.
The school partners with families, community agencies and other schools in order to achieve educational and behavioral success that maximizes academic potential, promotes life-long learning and develops skills necessary for re-entry into the traditional setting.
The Durham Arts Council CAPS program has partnered with Lakeview School for over 12 years to provide artist-in-residence during the school year. Dedicated Teaching artists provide instruction in visual art, music production, mural creation, gardening, African arts, design, and community/peer relationship building.
Students exhibit work annually, in an art show at the Durham Arts Council.
