Storyteller Mitch Capel /”Gran’daddy Junebug” is described as a “word magician” and “unexpectedly powerful,” He’s been featured at major storytelling festivals since 1985 including The National Storytelling Festival. He has performed at thousands of venues including the Kennedy Center and the Inauguration of President Obama. Mitch received the Zora Neale Hurston Award, one of the highest honors for storytelling. Alvin F. Poussaint, MD said, “Gran’daddy Junebug…through the quiet morals of his stories, strengthens self esteem with playful yet positive messages.” Mitch attended NC A&T State & Howard but is a full time honor student at the University of Life. Mitch Capel / “Gran’daddy Junebug” teaches personal responsibility, finding the right path, coping with peer pressure, being true to self, always striving for excellence and respect for self and others through oral traditions “call and response.” This high energy program utilizes audience participation with students learning life lessons. One principal wrote, “I have been in education for 35 years and this is the BEST cultural arts program I ever witnessed in my entire career!”

We Wear The Mask

Using the poetic genius of Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872-1906) Mitch Capel unveils the true depth of the soul of this remarkable poet. Audiences realize Dunbars’ struggle for existence, understand his courage, feel his compassion, know “why the caged bird sings” and why “with torn and bleeding hearts we smile.” Joanne Braxton, professor and author of “The Collected Poetry of Paul Laurence Dunbar” wrote, “Mitch Capel is the greatest interpreter of Dunbar’s work ever!”

Special Requirements: microphone (preferably a “clip on” type), chair, small table, music stand
