Jaclyn Bowie

Jaclyn Bowie is a visual and performing artist experienced in public collaborative projects that combine a wide variety of art forms such as animation and spoken word. Her teaching focuses on stop-motion animation and filmmaking as an inclusive, team-building practice. Bowie has exhibited her work and taught residencies and workshops throughout North Carolina and New York, at NCMA, NYSSSA, CAM Raleigh, and The Southeastern Center for Arts Integration at the Cameron Art Museum. Collaborative Animated Films

Students are guided in creating group-based animations exploring topics connecting to current science curriculum. Past topics include weather systems and storms, space exploration, and North Carolina ecosystems. Stop-motion and 2D animation combines learning digital technology with fine art and motivates students to work together and strive toward the rewarding goal of sharing their animations in a class screening and publishing them online. Requires use of tablets or laptops (1 for every 3 students) and a smart board or projector. A large classroom with ample table space and some storage is ideal.

Duration: Minimum 5 days needed for for completion of animation projects. 60-minute sessions

Special Requirements:  iPads or tablets (supporting iOS or Android) for every 3-4 students, table space and chairs for groups of 3-4 students to work, store their materials, and charge ipads at end of day. Small desk space for demos, projector with screen or smartboard.

Make Your Own Animated GIF

Create custom, scratch-made GIFs in this animation basics workshop that combines digital learning with hand-made art. Students new to animation and experienced will learn new skills and ways to be creative and express themselves. Requires use of tablets or laptops (one for each student) and a smart board or projector.

Max Participants: 20

Duration: 60 or 90 minutes.

Special Requirements:
2 class minimum/day, 4 class maximum.
